Lower Secondary Community Based Education (LSCBE)
Gender disparities still persist in rural areas and particularly among remote communities. Looking at enrollment trends, there remains significant gaps in the enrollment of girls at the Secondary level as compared to boys, especially at the Lower secondary level in the country. Thus, the new Project called Lower Secondary Community Based Education for Girls, which was launched in March 2006 in Khost province, for setting up schools at lower secondary level for girls deprived to further their education at secondary Level through CARE Education Program.
The project of LSCBE, run as a Community Based Project but in close coordination and in harmony with the Ministry of Education. This project is applicable and implemented in educationally backwards communities under CARE Coverage areas where the girls have no access or not able to promote their Education. In view of the targeted nature of the project, 100% of the enrollment is girls. The projects emphasis is on those girls in communities who were unable to complete their Education at Lower Secondary Levels.
CARE Chose to pilot the secondary School project in Khost Province, where it had previously seen the success of COPE project after baseline survey in the targeted communities to offer sustained commitment to training and operational support the school through this project CARE offers constant technical and operational support to the Lower secondary Schools. a critical feature contributing to the success of Lower Secondary Community Based Education is the reputation of CARE as a long-standing and committed partner to education development issues in Afghanistan.
