Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

The program aims to see youth in 7 locations realizing their entrepreneurial potential within an enabling environment. An inception phase will precede the start of the project implementation. It will start with an operational set-up of the project and recruitment, the needs assessment/baseline, and project launch. The needs assessment will look to identify gaps and opportunities at each level of project objectives, avoiding duplication and building on existing support available to young entrepreneurs. It will look at youth knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours; an assessment of the market; an assessment of possible hubs and knowledge sharing mechanism needs; an assessment of the advocacy issues; amongst others. The 7 locations are selected on the basis of creating synergies with previous CARE experience to achieve a higher impact. Inclusion and access are the main values guiding the design of all project activities, which would cater to youth across geographical locations, racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender and ability. Project activities would be suited in intent, language and delivery channels to marginalized youth. The project assumes a phased approach that follows the journey of the entrepreneur: youth become aware of entrepreneurship as a viable alternative to formal employment, the project offers youth a range of educational modules enhancing their skills and knowledge, youth consider some business ideas, the project supports them through guidance and mentorship, youth’s advocacy skills is enhanced through the project, and open channels of communication with other stakeholders are created for an enabling environment for youth entrepreneurship Inherent to this process is a sharing of knowledge and documenting best practices and learning for replicability and scale-up.
