Quality Education Through Disaster Resilient Schools in Kailai District
The ultimate aim of all school based DRR intervention is to improve education environment in general and quality of education in particular. The project will also facilitate for the use of Participatory School Assessment besides PVA. This assessment will focus on assessing school governance and pedagogical process.
The outcome of the both participatory process will inform School Improvement Plan (SIP)/ Disaster Preparedness Plan (DP), which will be a strategic document for school improvement in terms of increasing education quality and school safety. Extensive orientation to SMC, teachers and partners on education polices and acts and their roles and responsibilities in ensuring quality of education and school safety will be carried out. Trainings to teachers and head teachers on child centered learning and school management respectively have also been proposed.
The project will also engage in educational policy advocacy at the district and national level. The focus will be on integrating DRR in curriculum and design and implementation of safe school models. Furthermore, improving access to education of marginalized groups such as freed Kamaiya and Badi, marginalized social groups in programme area will also receive a priority. Initiating and institutionalizing a process of citizens? education watch across working VDCs and producing annual citizens education report is also proposed. The report is expected to strengthen the Village Education Plan (VEP) as envisaged in Nepal?s Education For All (EFA) National Plan of Action.
